Biography

One thing about Cameron that really grabs me is that she has a million different styles, but with every one she looks just as beautiful as the last. I find that often people see pictures of Cameron and think that she is very attractive without actually realizing it was Diaz. Then I end up getting into a whole big argument about why it is Cameron and I have to point out specific physical traits to prove it. She seems to have the ability to look completely different, but exactly the same.

Daughter of a Cuban-American father and German-American mother, Cameron happened to be at the right place at the right time when at a Hollywood party she met a photographer who helped land her a modeling contract with Elite Modeling Agency. Soon after, Diaz convinced her parents into allowing her to expand her career into Japan at the tender age of 16. In the next five years she traveled from Australia, Morocco, Paris, and Mexico before settling in Hollywood.

At a suggestion from her agent, Cameron went from modeling into acting. And after only twelve auditions, she landed a small role in the Jim Carrey film, "The Mask." From there she got the chance at a role in "Mortal Kombat" but circumstances sent Cameron down a different road when after injuring her wrist karate-chopping her trainer, she was unable to take the part. Instead she returned to some high-paying modeling jobs and found smaller, low-paying roles in independent films.

Diaz made a bold return to the commercial side of filmmaking for the summer romantic comedy My Best Friend's Wedding, in which she shouldered the unenviable task of trying to out-cute Julia Roberts. Most critics agreed that she pulled off the role admirably: Diaz had finally earned the honorable title of model-turned-actress. She next stepped into A Life Less Ordinary, an offering by the Trainspotting team of Danny Boyle, John Hodge, and Ewan McGregor. Diaz, who broke her longstanding relationship with de La Torre in 1995, ended a three-year romance with fellow thespian Matt Dillon, with whom she co-starred in the hilariously crude romantic comedy There's Something About Mary, in 1998. (She has since taken up with dreamy actor Jared Leto.) Less romantic by far was the coal-black comedy Very Bad Things, in which she starred with Christian Slater and Jon Favreau. 1999 delivered a brace of interesting outings for Diaz: she starred in one of the most talked-about films of the year, Being John Malkovich, director Spike Jonze's off-the-wall comedy about a luckless puppeteer (played by John Cusack) who discovers a hidden doorway into the consciousness of actor John Malkovich; and co-starred alongside Al Pacino, Dennis Quaid, and James Woods in Oliver Stone's gridiron drama Any Given Sunday.

If not, Christina Pagniacci (Cameron Diaz), the team's new owner, may be drop-kicking him to a new destination.

Starring: Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz, Dennis Quaid, Jamie Foxx, LL Cool J.

Being John Malkovich

Trailers:  MOV 3mb

Original is far too understated a term to describe this picture, brought to you by the surreal, twisted minds of screenwriter Kaufman and actor/director Jonze. The story concerns a puppeteer, Craig Schwartz (Cusack), who discovers his office has a secret portal that leads directly into the brain of one of America's most popular actors, John Malkovich (Malkovich himself, in a hilariously self-mocking appearance). When the journey ends fifteen minutes later, the participant is spewed onto the side of the New Jersey Turnpike. Schwartz uses his discovery as a way to get closer to fellow co-worker Maxine (the always sexy Keener). Together, the pair form JM, INC., which allows ordinary citizens to join in on the fun for $200 a pop. But when Craig's wife Lotte (a homely Diaz), as Malkovich, is seduced by Maxine, things begin to unfurl at an even more outrageous pace. Sound confusing? Thanks to Jonze's grounded direction, it isn't. The result is one of the decade's most original films.

Starring: John Cusack, Cameron Diaz, Catherine Keener, John Malkovich, Orson Bean.

There's Something About Mary

Trailers:  MOV 2mb

No-holds-barred comedy tour de force in which 30-something Stiller locates and courts his high school dreamgirl (Diaz), unwittingly enlisting the help of some of her more hilariously psychotic suitors. In-your-face sight gags and unapologetic raunchiness disguise a riotously funny love story that is actually very sweet. Be amazed at the impeccable casting and stellar performances of the supporting players.

Starring: Ben Stiller, Cameron Diaz, Matt Dillon, Chris Elliott, Lee Evans.

Very Bad Things

Trailers:  MOV 2mb

When a group of friends go to Las Vegas for a bachelor party, things begin to go wrong when the party's stripper dies. Attempting to voer up her death only leads to greater, and grislier, complications. A brutally dark comedy written and directed by Peter Berg of "Chicago Hope" fame.

Starring: Jon Favreau, Cameron Diaz, Christian Slater, Peter Berg, Daniel Stern.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Trailers:  MOV 4mb

Director Terry Gilliam (of Monty Python/BRAZIL/12 MONKEYS fame) skillfully interprets Hunter S. Thompson's novel in a psychedelic haze of imagery. Sent to Las Vegas to cover the Mint 400, a desert motorcycle race, gonzo journalist Dr. Thompson (Depp) and his attorney (Del Toro) find themselves in the town where only powerful drugs can make things seem slightly normal. One pharmaceutical bender after another do not make this film a condemnation of today's drug culture but rather a glimpse into the psyche of one of America's truly free spirits.

Starring: Johnny Depp, Benicio del Toro, Christina Ricci, Tobey Maguire, Ellen Barkin.

A Life Less Ordinary

Trailers:  MOV 4.1mb

Petulant, rich honeypie Celine and scruffily adorable janitor Robert find themselves on the road to romance after he kidnaps her to avenge his termination at the hands of her callous father. But what they don't realize is that their love is celestially predetermined, as a pair of gun-toting angels gives chase to force the issue. A quixotic and inconsistent Hollywood debut from the production team of director Boyle, writer John Hodge, and producer Andrew MacDonald ("Shallow Grave" and "Trainspotting").

Starring: Ewan McGregor, Cameron Diaz, Holly Hunter, Delroy Lindo, Ian Holm.

My Best Friend's Wedding

But jealousy rears its ugly head when she discovers he's engaged to another woman, and, what's more, that she's perfect for him. What's a jilted bride-to-be to do? A hijinx-filled romantic caper. Academy Award Nomination: Best Original Musical or Comedy Score.

Starring: Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney, Cameron Diaz, Rupert Everett, Philip Bosco.
